We hold ourselves
Together
In every type of weather

Stormy clouds, or
Cloudless skies
Full of never-ending
Setting suns

We resist
And hold true
To what we believe
Is the most important

Function
Of our desired reluctance

Sheltering ourselves
Against a foe
Feared
Of an imagined destructive

Compunction
Set to crack the
Facade
Created from the beginning

Of our earthly existence

And while we express
Our resistance
We move
Further
Away

From our true coexistence

You, me, and all of thee

Let the light shine
From within you
And give way
To all that
Beauty

Because my friend,
As we allow
Ourselves
To break

We begin to understand

That this is not the
Last stand, no
Rather
It is the beginning

Of a new life

Not predicated
On holding back
But, rather, only ever
On moving forward,

Creating
All that’s within us
And allowing ourselves
The freedom

To break as often as needed
