#NatureSpeaks: 30 #Poems in 30 Days – Day 24: The Flush of Fall, by K. Hartless

The trees have ruddy cheeks
after a season of heavy drinking,
but as rays and rains retreat,
a skeletal hand
beckons me to lie in shadow
below my favorite tulip tree,
amidst the signature pattern
of DNA forestry.

If I escape into unknown dark,
a place sunlight can never hold,
will knowledge be bestowed
from the underside
of limb and branch?
I duck and take a chance, besides
enlightenment never trickles.
It is always avalanche.

The bark, a sort of braille,
is a hidden language,
and by touching it we speak,
myself and ancient tulip tree,
sharing spells through silent system,
wrinkled body ‘gainst wrinkled hand.
Is that not real wisdom?

The Flush of Fall was inspired by the poem Limbs and Leaves. You can read more of K.’s poetry at Yard Sale of Thoughts.

butterfly touch

pain and pleasure
often go together, a mystery

of feelings
conjured from the depths
of being

one
with the gifts bestowed
sitting transfixed

I know
the touch of butterfly wings
which

always
take me
into the night

where everything is hidden
yet

still in plain sight
reminding me

I have finally arrived

butterfly kiss

the sky, mountain
high

sits in my heart
and at the center of time

you, my love

bleed
through my skin, pores

thin

and, transparent
a fragrance

clandestine, and
hidden

beneath

a butterfly kiss
upon my forehead, to me

you gave this final gift

butterfly kiss was inspired by the poem Something Stuck, by Tricia Sankey.

take flight

love lives in the sky
a blanket of stars

much deeper than I can know
or, upon rely

and, while I’ll always try
I know, my love

once hidden, can now take flight

Blessings in the Sky: Diana and Jeff

The sky is full
of stars, and
as we gaze up,
and wonder why,
a pattern
of constellations emerge,
reminiscent
of all that we’ve purged.

The lost stories that
peek from behind
the moving clouds,
of love,
of life, and
treasured bruises that
paved our path.

A hope,
and knowing
from long ago,
just like the stars
we see,
timeless, and
beyond the dream,
so we continue
into the unforeseen.

I stroll the contours
of a hanging rainbow, letting the taste of beautiful
tragedies linger on my breath,
and icy winds cut through my weight
of woes.

I want to know now
what hope feels like,
and devour drops of peace,
because …. nothing lasts forever,
even the darkness, one day, will cease.

I am honored to present a first-time collaboration between Diana Menezes, of Be Inspired, and myself. Diana’s poetry blog was one of the first poetry blogs I began following last year.
