A Bloggerโ€™s Diary 8/22/21: On the Week, Writing, Reflecting, and New Publications, Books Arrived, and Social Media Poetry

The Week

This week the team continued to prepare for the fall term, which starts in 5 weeks. Hard to believe, yet itโ€™s true.

We also finished the fall schedule this week, and I am quite pleased with it. The team always works hard on the schedule, and we do so, well, 4 times a year; it is a drumbeat, if you will, that we have gotten pretty good at. Fun.

Lots of writing this week, which is always fun, and many reflections.

Writing, Reflecting and New Publications

This week was full of writing that poured from the heart, as it always does, and was centered on love. The love that emanates from me today is quite profound, and is amazing to experience.

The poem brushed ourselves with the winds, was a poem that was reflective of the deep love I have for nature and this planet. Iโ€™ve spent a lot of time in, and with, nature, and I love the feeling of being among the trees as the winds come up, and mingle with the trees in, what for me is, an exquisite dance. It is so beautiful.

The poem I await your warm embrace was a reflection of a lifetime of watching, being in relationship with, and loving many people on this beautiful planet. Human beings are a treasure, and being in relationship with people, the sharing, caring, creating, living, and loving of people, and with people, are among the most important experiences of our lifetimes. Really.

Iโ€™m pleased to announce that 4 more poems have been accepted for publication in the past two weeks. Two poems will appear in MasticadoresUSA, edited by Gabriela Marie Milton; and, two will appear in MasticadoresIndia, edited by Terveen Gill. I am super excited, and would like to again thank Gabriela, Terveen, and their respective teams. I invite you, if youโ€™ve not already done so, to visit the former, MasticadoresUSA, and visit the latter, MasticadoresIndia, once it is launched on September 1. Thank you.

When the poems are published, I will let you all know. Exciting.

Books Arrived

Photo by Susan Q Yin on Unsplash

I ordered several books a couple of weeks ago. These books hold a special place in my heart, as they have all been written by blogosphere friends. It is such a treat.

Here are the books that arrived.

โ€ข The Anthropocene Hymnal, edited by Ingrid Wilson
โ€ข Woman: Splendor and Sorrow Love Poems and Poetic Prose, by Gabriela Marie Milton
โ€ข The Waking Dream, by Grace (Ace) Hakopian
โ€ข A Little Bit of Everything, by Gayatri Bagyatkar
โ€ข The Comfort Book, by Matt Haig (a recommendation from my dear friend, Diana Menezes)

Iโ€™ll be enjoying these lovely works of art in the coming weeks. Beautiful people, inspiring writing.

Social Media Poetry

Iโ€™ve been reflecting more about writing some shorter pieces of poetry for social media, such as Instagram and, maybe Twitter. Therefore, this week, I am leaving you with a short poem on living and loving, titled live again.

Made with Canva and Prisma

Stay healthy and well, and have a blessed week, everyone.

letters loved,

delivered

to the

of our
consciousness,
creating rhymes,
at times, sublime

stories, they
always do
shine

loved
as a child,
displayed

we
treasure
as a
clandestine

meeting
of minds

as, our
imaginations
conjure textures
of places
far and wide,
doing well
to abide

so… let us begin…

the river runs
north and south,
feeling the drift
of the current begin,
letting go
of the trembling within

for nowโ€ฆ

discovering
more on the banks,
eddies sharply tasked
with creating stability,
loose leaves raining down,
cascading,
for deliriums sake

a breakโ€ฆ

not far away,
stowed, and a little
out of control
wanting to resign,
as the love
of my life
passes by

walking
along the shore,
greeting the love,
missed by a kiss,
forevermore, remiss

the lightโ€ฆ

cascades
through the trees,
dancing, and
entrancing,
so majestically
touching
the being withdrawn
from within, soโ€ฆ

let us beginโ€ฆ

I await your warm embrace

fields
of memories glean
and, the water tower
sits at the center
of a love that is greater

than
what we purported
to know, as the grass
grows taller, and we stay
a little while longer

sitting
in each otherโ€™s
presence, while the birds
among the trees
sing love songs
to each other, called forever

and
a moment
together, is worth more
than all the gold
laid down
inside the rock
a millennia ago

when last
there was a time
that stopped

stood still

just like,
my heart
when youโ€™re near

close
enough
to feel youโ€™re
presence on my face

breathing
and whispering
something
into outer space,
as I await
your warm embrace

brushed ourselves with the winds

sparkling seas, reminiscent
of sparkling eyes,
as they laid upon
me that very first time

among
the open trees,
where we laid
so quietly

awaiting
the presence,
or stirring, of some
other kind of mention

oh,
how sublime
it is in reflection

not known
by name,
only ever by the
feeling that came

forth
in that moment,
as we held hands,
and looked up
at the opening,
so vast, ah, the beauty
is here at last

will it stay
was not even
a question we asked

there was
no need, as we began
to climb from the field
into the air, and whispered
among the trees songs,
so sincere,
and beautiful in contrast

a melody,
cast from shadows,
as they dance among the
gallows, and halls,
of times shallow walls

jumped over
so quick,
we were thin footed,
and running

in two,
we then split

as we
gathered up
momentum
and brushed
ourselves with
the winds, and broke
melancholy on a whim

bearing seeds already sown

dreams
unfulfilled,
feeling shrill
and unable
to grasp
the complexities
of lifeโ€™s
myriad trajectories

balance
in mind, not
available, feelings
spinning out of control
so miserably

tears
dried up,
like the desert
prior to a new monsoon,
while the moon
looks on with
gentleness
through
the

gloom, as

light
cascades
into my heart,
and, tears begin
to come forth,
a newness is defined
in terms
not known,
bearing seeds
already sown

Have a blessed Sunday and coming week, everyone.

the breeze that glistens

I flitter
at the moonโ€™s
presence
within my
aboded center

as

nostalgia
runs deep, like a
never-ending crater
while I sleep

and,

dream of
places far from
imagination,
yet all hiding
within
our hearts center
of creation

following
the line in the sand,
I trail behind,
and ask for a plan

and,

in the silence,
a mirror image
remerges
of you and me, glowing
brightly,

just like
the moon nightly

bright, brilliant,
and full of promises
to be given,
as we stop,
and listen
to the breeze
that glistens

an ode as silently known

Photo by Koushik Pal on Unsplash

heart centered,
beating
strong,
while the body
begins
to break,
from the myriad
turmoil,
cast about
during the time
weโ€™ve been drawn out

from
our misery

and
preoccupation
with all
lifeโ€™s reasons

looking
for answers,
we search
high and low,
and,
ask everyone
we know

yet,
what
we get back
doesnโ€™t portend
to all
weโ€™ve been told

confusion
sets in,
and all at once
we lose our grin

and,
become grim

though,
as we hold
tight to the
knowing inside

we,
begin
to contemplateโ€ฆ.

and,
inside
our heartโ€™s
desire,
we find
the key, and
unlock
the mystery
of the self
that inspires,
and is made of fire

exhaling,
we regain
a loss
never so,
and, give thanks

as
our grin
returns,
we nod
our heads, and
thank
our hearts,

in an
ode
as silently known

all the love that’s been given

Photo by Mantas Hesthaven on Unsplash

beauty
abounds,
here,
there, and,
everywhere
we look, when
our eyes
finally
come into view

and,
notice

the
vastness
before us,
letting go
of the minds
preoccupation,
and
ability to
contemplate
all things, old

and, new
alike

itโ€™s
as common
as the
treasure trove,
buried behind
the alcove

of our
heartโ€™s desire

as
they meet
again,
and again,
in a myriad
of contemplation,
and,
we grin

in
anticipation
of the game
to begin

and, at
last,

when
unearthed,
the gifts keep
giving,
while we sit
in the presence
of all the love
thatโ€™s been given

A Bloggerโ€™s Diary 8/8/21: On the Week, Writing and Reflecting, Portland, and Living Life as it Comes

The Week

This past week has been full of more change, as the delta variant continues to spread in the State, new cases are being reported regularly, and those vaccinated and unvaccinated are becoming infected. Scary, yet the current reality.

What does this mean for the teamโ€™s fall term in-person classes? I have no idea. We have a plan, and will execute on this plan, as possible, and if not? We will pivot, as weโ€™ve done so many times in the past 16 months. Like we all have.

Alright, though a precarious time here locally, and across the globe, it does remind me of a reflection of mine from last week. Taking life as it comes, which Iโ€™ll write more about in a moment.

First, letโ€™s take a look at some writing reflections from this past week.

Writing and Reflecting

Photo by Pepe Reyes on Unsplash

This week, the poem The Brilliance of Life, was published in MasticadoresUSA; thank you again, Gabriela and team. A true honor.

I also found out this week that MasticadoresIndia will launch September 1, and will be edited by Terveen Gill. I am super excited for MasticadoresIndia, and for Terveen. Amazing.

Alright, poem reflections, here we go.

The poem, The Brilliance of Life, like many of the poems that come forth today, was a reflection and reminiscence on working through layers and layers of trauma; and just as importantly, the newness, or brilliance, that life takes on as these layers are uncovered, and removed.

Though the process of removing these layers is difficult, thereโ€™s always a knowing that Iโ€™m (we are) never alone. We are all connected through our shared humanity, and the love and affinity we share for each other and our home, this beautiful planet.ย

The poem, open hearts have healed, speaks to the truth just elaborated on; when we work through our grief, sadness, insert any other emotions here, our heart does break; and sometimes, it breaks again and again, yet there is always a healing and wholeness on the other side. It is so clear to me today, yet, as you all know, was not clear to me for a very long time.

Inside of the concept of brokenness, healing and wholeness are already there. Quite simple, yet profound as we experience this reality.

Portland

Music Millennium, Portland, Oregon

Last weekend, I took a quick trip, two nights, to Portland, for a very simple and pragmatic reason; to shop. Where I live in the Willamette Valley, letโ€™s say, shopping for clothes can be difficult.ย

The shopping went quite well, and I also got to spend some time with Justin. We went to a lovely vegan breakfast place, called Nectar Cafe. Was delicious.

We also visited a super cool record store, Music Millennium. Awesomeness. The store is huge, and, I think, is the second largest in Portland. There are 5 different rooms, and an upstairs. I found three records, one of which is by John Coltrane. Soul stirringly beautiful.

Living Life as it Comes

As I mentioned earlier, the past couple of weeks, Iโ€™ve been reflecting on how life shows up; and how inside the experience of life showing up, we have, as leaders, as human beings on this planet, the opportunity to respond to a situation, or react.

Sometimes reaction is needed and necessary; yet, often, we can pause, breathe into life as it shows up, whatever the situation might be, reflect, and then respond.ย

Creating a pause like this in our lives holds enormous power and potential. When we can be with life as it shows up, and hold the knowing that we can pause, breathe, reflect, and then respond; we create more possibility for ourselves and everyone around us.

As life continues to show up for you, and me, today, tomorrow, this week, this month, over the course of the next couple of months, remember, life just shows up; it just is, and we can create the space to pause, breathe, reflect, and then respond.

It is quite beautiful and inspirational, just like each of you.

Have a splendid week, everyone.
