Musical Heart

morning tranquility
broken and crumbled, my part

of ashes spread all over the flower garden
and within the nest of my heart

made out of sticks and stonesโ€ฆ

I would be honored if you would go here, and read the rest of my poem. Thank you!

Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow: A Review, by Jaya Avendel

I am honored to share another advanced review with you, of Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow, by Jaya Avendel, of Nin Chronicles.

I met Jaya last summer sometime, and have been an avid reader ever since. Jaya uses language in ways that invite the reader to continuously ponder meaning, and the ways in which we construct the realities we hold about life. The poetry and prose are stunning.

I was honored when Jaya agreed to complete an advanced review of Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow.

Here are a few excerpts from Jayaโ€™s stunning review.

The poetry of Jeff is undulating and emotional. It explores love and loss and remembrance. It explores the nature of memory and the sweetness of life. Every word is intentional and every line sinks deep into the heart as the imagery of each poem takes hold and bursts into being.

From the moment I started reading this book, I was reminded of a quote by Cicero.

โ€œIf you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.โ€ ~ Cicero

If you have Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow, you will have both a library and nature at your fingertips. You will find the flora and fauna of nature delicate and raw in this book, and the library of written emotions and experiences poignant and healing.

I recommend Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow to any lover of nature and all lovers of poetry. It is a powerful and vivid collection you will enjoy poem by poem again and again.

I would be honored if you would go here, and read the rest of Jayaโ€™s review of Nature Speaks of Love and Sorrow. Thank you!ย

I would like to thank Jaya from the bottom of my heart for completing this gorgeous review.

mi amor

the moon swings into view
as the relations of me become you

wandering no more, I implore

you from the dance floor
a chore

among the rabble weโ€™ve come to adore

wondering about the nature of love lost
in between the songs sung and hung on the door

Can you imagine the depths of the seas mi amor?

I can too.

know they remind me of just how much I love you

rose sky

roses fill the sky
with the fragrance of the tide

as petals sing to the moon
under the canopy of our afternoon

know

thereโ€™s always been a piece of me in you

a mirror or two
reflects back our love

while we climb the ladder of chaos

still embossed
with an evening of frost

as we set off
on a journey to reclaim our love lost

shattering like glassโ€ฆ

walking into misery, watching it unfold, it envelops me
like a cloak, I

drown from within, you were just here, how could
it have beenโ€ฆunderstanding loses meaning,
as heart breaks into a thousand
pieces

shattering like glass, spreading out through the air,
diamond bits rest in my chest, throat stuck,
tongue thick, with
a mind
blinking
into
a
mistโ€ฆ

traveling back in time, unavailable, so will settle
on memories lying dormant
in mind, and
heart

though
they
do
tell the story of your love, divined

deep as the ocean is wide, you did your best, while
dealing with your pain
like a mime

and, while goodbyes are unnecessary, I would like to tell
you how much I love you,
one last
timeโ€ฆ

may this song be sung, Published at MasticadoresIndia

Recently, I was invited to be a regular contributor to MasticadoresIndia. I have accepted this invitation, and am very excited about this new opportunity. I would like to thank Terveen Gill, and the entire team at MasticadoresIndia, for thinking of me, inviting me to be a regular contributor, and always supporting my work. I am honored.

Here is an excerpt, of the first of two poems that will be published this month at MasticadoresIndia.

may this song be sung

tears are like open wounds
that never lie, on that, we can rely

and, try as we might

we are never truly sure,
only ever, may we relish in the fervor
of yesterdayโ€™s delight, pushing us furtherโ€ฆ

I would be honored if you would go here, and read the rest of my poem. Thank you!

I call to the wind

in times of great distress, I call to the wind,
a friend, and constant companion when times are
grim

less known than before, part of the paradoxical
nature of love and loss,
shown

as part of a life lived

in its myriad fabrics and textures, feeling them with zeal,
I reel, and find a home in all
thatโ€™s realโ€ฆ

no hiding, now exposed, raw, vulnerable, and ready
to let go

of the pain, and sorrow, and simply sit in the magnificence
of love in all its shapes, and sizes,
bestowedโ€ฆ

I am at the Oregon coast this weekend, and it is beautiful. The above pic and poem were inspired by my time here, which I always treasure. Growing up by the ocean was a gift, and now living relatively close to the ocean once again fills my heart. Wishing you all a beautifully blessed Sunday, and coming week.

we kiss time goodbyeโ€ฆ

apart, a distance kept, past regret,
and other mysterious combinations of lives lived
instead

the love of a lifetime, and beyond all lifelines,
blossoms, as we touch the sky, with hearts filled with
love and joy

once, we bid adieu, not knowing whether our paths
would cross again, we, two

souls separated by circumstance, now fly high,
transparency by design, seeing each other
for the first time, we rely, and

cross the crowded city center, enter each
others arms, hold close, as the
stars align

and we kiss time goodbyeโ€ฆ.

a beacon for another day

Photo by Casey Horner on Unsplash

complications
abound
when we tarry,
our heads splitting
with fever
and shameโ€™s
carry

unable
to turn on our
heartโ€™s light,

feeling

the movement
of the breeze,
becomes agony
of the senses, as
we plead with everyone
we see,
and yet, we
still
silently believe

in something
grander,
larger than
this life

still, we cannot
grasp the
meaning,
due to
all the past,
and,
present fraught
weโ€™ve been taught

even the future
abounds
with calamities
in our
mindโ€™s eye,
detailed out, with
immense
feelings of
our own creation

yet,
in that silence
created long ago,
hidden
from view
for a generation
or two

a movement
rebounds,
strikes a chord,
seemingly distant,
and, right at our
very door

and,
just like that

a kindling
of some other
kind
is ignited,
takes flame,
and becomes
a beacon
for another day
